Multiple earthquakes, including one at 6.2 magnitude, struck western Japan late Tuesday morning local time, centered in Shimane Prefecture and neighboring Tottori Prefecture.

The quake, with a preliminary magnitude of 6.2, occurred in Shimane prefecture in northwestern Japan, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.

The earthquake had a seismic intensity of upper-5 on Japan's 1-7 scale, strong enough to make movement difficult without support.
